Configuration
Use the dialog to set the courseplanner network values.
- The machine IP address/Name is the name of the other machine, the one with Flight simulator. Remember that you can enter either the IP address or the other machine name.
- The port number must be the same for both machines.
- When you press the 'Ping' Button you should get a message similar to 'Successfully managed to connect to <xx.xx.xx.xx>
- Press the 'retry' button to close the current connection and try a new connection, (needed when you make any kind of changed on the network)
Issues
Those are some of the common issues when trying to connect.
- Cannot 'ping' the other machine[1]. This can happen for many reasons.
- Do you have access to the other machine?
- Can you access the other machine without Courseplanner and Flight Simulator?
- Do you have a firewall[2]/router[3] that could prevent the connection?
- Did you set your firewall to allow Flight Simulator to connect on the one machine?
- Did you set your firewall to allow Courseplanner to connect on the other machine?
- When you look at the error log tab, what messages do you get.
- 10060: Connection timed out[4].
- First check that you have the right hostname[5] and/or ip address.
- Make sure that the setup was run on both machines, (you must run the setup on the machine with Courseplanner and the machine with Flight Simulator), (make sure you select option 2 and 3 during the setup).
- The port number on both machines must be the same, (during the setup you are asked for the port number).
- Flight simulator is blocked by your fire wall, (see for XP, for vista and for Windows 7).
- Flight simulator is running but you selected the firewall option "Ask Me later", this blocks the connection until you restart flight simulator.
- Flight simulator on the the other machine is not running<g>.
- The port number must not already be used, try another port number if you are certain that everything else is properly setup, (but port 9001 is normally not used so that is probably not the problem).
- 10061: The other machine refused the connection, you also get this message if the other machine was not even connected, (if the name/ip address is wrong for example).
- 10060: Connection timed out[4].
- Is Flight simulator up and running on the other machine?
- Did you run the setup on both machines? Did you choose the right option for both installs? There is one option for the machine that has courseplanner and one option for courseplanner that has Flight simulator.
Re-run the setup
Remember that you can re-run the setup at any time, This is useful if you want to change the port number or change the host name for example.
